Course Description:
This presentation provides an in-depth review of best practices for identifying, reporting, investigating and documenting adverse events in skilled nursing facilities. Participants will learn how to strengthen practices and documentation to promote resident safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement. Discussion will include definitions of adverse events, near misses and reportable incidents, root cause analysis, reporting requirements, documentation best practices.

Learning Objectives
1. Describe essential components of an effective incident management system, from identification and documentation to analysis and follow-up.
2. Identify regulatory requirements for reporting incidents and adverse events, including timelines and documentation standards.
3. Apply root cause analysis and corrective action planning to prevent recurrence and improve resident safety.



Course Content
10 min: Definitions of key terms related to incident management
20 min: Regulatory requirements related to adverse events and reportable incidents
20 min: Discussion of principles of documentation related to reporting, investigation, and follow-up activities
10 min: Techniques for root cause analysis and performance improvement activities
