MDS & Exception Review Update

CMS has released updates to the MDS Form which we will cover in this four hour program reviewing changes to the form, the MDS items, and RAI guidance for completion. The new questions on the form as well as changes to the form will be covered during this important update. Additionally, if the exception review criteria is formally released by the Ohio Department of Medicaid prior to these presentations, that information will also be shared during this program.
The seminar will also cover the new Medicaid Level of Care (LOC) instrument that soon will replace the ODM 03697 Level of Care Assessment (3697). Unlike the 3697 which was optional in nature whereby many NFs used alternative forms like the MDS to request a LOC determination, this new ODM 10127, which is called the Adult LOC Questionnaire, will be mandatory. The new 14-page assessment is proposed to be released soon in an electronic format and will be housed within the HENS system which is used by NFs for PASRR.

Maureen Wern has been in long Term care for 40 years working in several positions from Floor Nurse to Executive Director of a 150 Bed SNF with a 75 bed AL. She founded Wern & Associates, a Long Term care consulting firm, in 1996. The firm focuses on several areas including MDS Education, Survey readiness audits, Quality Measure Management, Web Site development, Customer service Training and MDS Case Mix Management. Mrs. Wern is a nationally recognized Speaker serving as a Master Instructor for the NASPAC MDS certification program, a Board Member and an observer on the CMS STRIVE Task Force. She is currently on the Ohio Health Care Board of Directors, serves on the Executive Committee and Chairs the Convention Committee.
