3:00 pm The Benefits of Hospice and Palliative Care in Assisted Living

Choosing hospice and palliative care, means focusing on quality of life. There is peace of mind in knowing a resident can remain in the assisted living setting, with no interruptions in care while receiving hospice or palliative care services. This type of care offers a higher quality of life, less pain and fewer symptoms, and higher satisfaction with care. Families and caregivers likewise experience less stress and psychological debility, and greater satisfaction with the care received by their loved one.

We will be discussing the key indicators that will trigger the need for a hospice or palliative care consult and guide you through this process. Learn the benefits of partnership with a hospice and palliative care team and how this can position you to become a preferred provider with residents, families, staff, and providers across the healthcare continuum.

10:15 am Finding & Keeping Great Team Members

LONG before the pandemic, skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, as well as other types of post-acute care providers were in a recruitment & retention crisis. There is little reason to believe that things will get any easier.

Assisted living communities must re-evaluate every aspect of their outreach, interviewing, on boarding, and retention processes. In this program, ?on-the-ground/real world? strategies will be offered that can immediately be implemented. Lou Ann Brubaker will describe successful best practices that enabled a small chain to open their own staffing agency in 2020 (DURING COVID-19!). Presented in an upbeat, fun manner, attendees will be inspired to make the changes important to their success.

Following this session, participants will be able to:
* Correct the barriers that prevent people from applying
* Increase desire to join your team (even before the first meeting)
* Ask the right questions during interviews
* Prepare for a new team member?s first day
* Address the major drivers of why someone quits

We will discuss the impact of OSHA?s activity on Assisted Living. Furthermore, OSHA is actively engaged in COVID-19 Healthcare Rulemaking for a final standard expected in the summer of 2022. 2:30 pm Break

2:45 pm Certified Medication Aides- Could this be one of the tools in your staffing toolkit?

All areas of healthcare are struggling with staffing to care for our clients. Nurses are asked to do more and more each day, which takes them away from the critical assessments and other technical aspects of nursing that we need them to focus on. The Certified Medication Aide can help to remove some of the time burden on the nurses by picking up a large portion of the medication pass. With this taken off the nurse, it allows them to utilize their time towards clinical assessing, wound care/treatments, client teaching/training, improved documentation, and driving positive outcomes.
