Direct Care Teleconference Series:

Managing Our Medications

March 3, 2010
2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Teleconference

One Low Price for Unlimited Participants

Description

Direct care workers see first hand the impact that medications play in the behaviors of residents. Understanding side effects of medications is vitally important. Direct care workers are the eyes and ears for the clinical team and can provide important details regarding residents behaviors. This session will provide direct care workers the answers to the following questions:

What medications can cause dizziness, drowsiness and thus increase the resident's fall risk?

What medications decrease the resident's thirst sensation and thus require prompting to drink a lot of water?

What effects do blood pressure medications cause and how can I help my residents deal with them?

What can I do for my residents to reduce their incidence of constipation?

In addition, the program will include time for those participating to ask questions of the instructor as well as materials for facilities to utilize to facilitate follow up discussion as a compliment to their facilities staff development efforts on this important topic.
