Part 2 of the Emergency Preparedness series

EFOHCA is pleased to partner with Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging to bring their PREPARE Emergency Preparedness series to Ohio. Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging is nationally recognized for applied research and education for health professionals and providers who serve older adults. Their award-winning programs have received national recognition for improving and enhancing both workplaces and the skills that staff needs to serve older adults The Institute on Aging is actively involved in the dissemination of information about best practices and cutting edge research in senior living (SL) and long-term care (LTC) communities and residential settings. Current dissemination activities include the monthly aging in action newsletter, editorial management of the Seniors Housing & Care Journal, and publication of articles for professional and lay audiences.

The PREPARE program was developed with funding from the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR), U. S. Department of Health and Human Services. Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging has provided training for multiple disciplines of SL/LTC staff within 2000+ organizations in all 50 states. The PREPARE Program was awarded the 2009 Archstone Foundation Award for Excellence in Program Innovation and 2007 American Society on Aging (ASA) Award for Innovation and Quality in Healthcare.

About This Program:

Putting the Community Back Together is Part 3 of the Emergency Preparedness series and explores 'After weathering the storm, how does your community return to normalcy?'.


This session focuses on:
providing support and/or interventions to ease the trauma of the disaster or emergency
evaluating the lessons learned
updating your disaster plan based on what you learned

How it will work:

One week prior to the teleconference, you will receive an email with the toll-free number and access code for your contact person at the facility to enter the teleconference, as well as any handout materials and continuing education request forms. The number and access code are only valid for one connection (phone line). Any additional connections will be billed the teleconference registration fee.

Speaker:

Paula Fenza. MA

Paula’s knowledge of disaster preparedness is extensive. Paula was a contributor to the PREPARE curriculum and has taught in the PREPARE program since its inception five years ago. Additionally, Paula was instrumental in developing both individual PREPARE webinars and the current three-part series. Paula’s has extensive knowledge in senior living and long-term care. She co-authored Gerontology Online, a six course certificate program for health care professionals who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills in the field of aging. She co-wrote LEAP for Senior Living, a unique interdisciplinary program that empowers staff to partner with residents in creating a person-directed culture. and teaches both the workshop and three-part webinar series. Paula has presented papers and conducted workshops at numerous conferences throughout the United States including: the 2008 American Society on Aging (ASA) conference; 2007 AAHSA conference; the 2007 Gerontological Society of America (GSA) conference; the 2006 ASA conference; and 2006 to present PREPARE trainings. Ms. Fenza earned a Master’s degree in anthropology from Northern Illinois University and pursued post-graduate studies at the University of Chicago. She was an adjunct professor of anthropology at Waubonsee Community College and Elgin Community College.

Paula, the Grants Manager at Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging, continues to teach PREPARE and LEAP for Senior Living workshops and webinars. She is currently an instructor at the Mather Academy


CEUs & Other Education Requirements:


The programs is approved for one (1.0) hours of credit for nursing home administrators and nurses. Individual attendance will be monitored throughout the call. Only those attending the entire call will be awarded continuing education credit. All participants regardless of need for CEUs, will receive a certificate of attendance. Upon receipt of your request for continuing education form, certificates will be emailed to the facility.

How much does it cost?

Facilities will pay one low fee for an unlimited number of participants. However, the number and access code is valid only for one phone line/computer at the location registered with the Association. Any additional telephone #’s/computers calling in will be billed for the registration fee.


It is imperative that an email address is provided as this is where call in code and handout materials will be sent.
